"There will come a time when good men must do bad things to bring back better days."

Kali Yuga, or the Age of Darkness, is one of the four eternally repeating cycles of the universe, known as yugas, in Hinduism. The other three cycles are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, and Dvapara Yuga. Kali Yuga is the current era and is said to have begun after Krishna departed from his earthly abode on February 18, 3102 BCE. Kali Yuga lasts for 432,000 years. During Kali Yuga, humanity's spirituality declines and is ultimately reduced to only a quarter of what it was during the golden age of Satya Yuga. During this era, an apocalyptic figure will appear on Earth: Sri Kalki, the tenth and final incarnation of Vishnu, riding a white horse.

Kali Yuga is described in Vedic literature as follows:

"During Kali Yuga, the leaders of the world will become perilous and taxation will turn unjust. Leaders will no longer see the importance of nature and the role of humans within it. In Kali Yuga, unworthy individuals will rise to power. Nationwide protests will be suppressed to prevent change. Baseless bloodlust and murders will increase. Expressions of lust will become socially acceptable. People will no longer be guided by reason but instead will be swayed by emotions, and vice versa. People will be blinded by superficial intelligence and will no longer see the need for wisdom. Stereotypes and cultural norms will become life’s priorities. Even preteens will become pregnant as sexuality and intercourse take center stage in society. Sinfulness and immoral lifestyles will spread, and virtue will fade. Alcohol and drugs will proliferate. True gurus will no longer be respected, and their teachings will be mocked, while the world will be filled with false gurus. As the number of sins increases, so too will the number of natural punishments, leading to the death of many in severe catastrophes. In the final stages of the age, continuous rains will flood the earth. Toward the end of Kali Yuga, Kalki will come riding on his white horse and will begin his battle against Kali and its dark forces."
